Application
This unit was developed for arms soldiers working within an operational zone in Defence but is applicable to any individual in this field of work. Typically these individuals must demonstrate the ability to work as individuals and as part of a team under direct and/or indirect supervision, use discretion and judgement, and take responsibility for the quality of their outputs. All activities are carried out in accordance with relevant organisational policies and procedures. | |

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit | Assessment must confirm the ability to: operate in a range of environments such as day and night operations, different terrain and weather conditions and under a simulated operational threat environment work as a team member under supervision while employing fieldcraft, offensive and defensive measures complywith the laws of armed conflict. Consistency in performance Competency should be demonstrated over time in a range of contexts. The operational activity is to take place over time allowing the individual to be assessed in a number of realistic operational scenarios. |
Context of and specific resources for assessment | Context of assessment Competency should be assessed in a replicated operational threat environment. The person should be exposed to the extremes of the operational environment under physical and mental stress. The context of assessment is simulated due to the nature of this high risk environment. Method of assessment | In a public safety environment assessment is usually conducted via direct observation in a training environment or in the workplace via subject matter supervision and/or mentoring, which is typically recorded in a competency workbook. Assessment is completed using appropriately qualified assessors who select the most appropriate method of assessment. Assessment may occur in an operational environment or in an industry-approved simulated work environment. Forms of assessment that are typically used include: direct observation interviewing the candidate journals and workplace documentation third party reports from supervisors written or oral questions. |
